No Chill 'Til Chicago

by Jordan Adams, Seven Days

Over the years, we here at Seven Days have noticed an amusing phenomenon: We profile an interesting person in Vermont's arts community and, less than a year later, they announce they're leaving town. I recently passed my one-year marker with the paper, and I can attest to some truth in it. Browsing the annals of my coverage, I noticed that no fewer than five people I've spotlighted no longer reside in the 802. What's up with that? Is it something we said?

Funny Females Drive the VT Comedy Scene

Dan Bolles & others, Seven Days Newspaper

In the last several years, comedy has exploded in Vermont. That trend is consistent with a wider surge of interest in the art form — witness the overload of new comedy specials in your Netflix queue. But compared to the well-established comedy scenes in urban areas such as New York City, Boston and Chicago, Vermont's is a relative infant.

Liz Miele Talks Therapy, Troops & Pet Peeves

Jordan Adams, Seven Days

Liz Miele knows a thing or two about cats. The New York City-based comedian and writer grew up with veterinarians for parents — her mother is a cat specialist. While she knew early on that she wanted to pursue comedy, Miele's animalistic roots frequently pop up in her material — for instance, her joke about being at risk for cat adoption. She's currently working on an autobiographical screenplay titled "Declawed."

Everybody Poops: Q&A w/Adam Mamawala

Dan Bolles, Seven Days

Adam Mamawala has a way of tackling weighty subject matter with equal measures of insight and charm.
