2014 Contest Judges

We were grateful to have such fantastic judges for the 2014 "VT's Funniest Comedian" contest. They're super qualified producers, bookers & comedians from Boston, NYC & Montreal. 

FINALS - Sat, Nov 8th

Marc Grossman is the owner of four of the country's most reputable and successful comedy clubs from coast to coast.

His clubs, where he books some of the country's top comedy talent, include Goodnights in Raleigh, NC, and the Helium Comedy Club chain, with three locations (in Philadelphia, PA, Buffalo, NY, and Portland, OR).

Marc also owns Seat Engine, an online ticketing service for performance venues around the country. 

Paul Ronca is the Director of ComedyPro and the Film Festival at Just for Laughs, and has been a driving force behind the success of the festival in the last seven years. He began as a writer and standup, and later was the owner and founder of The Comedy Zone in Montreal.

Paul began as a Talent Producer at Just For Laughs, and played a major role in the creation of new shows such as Wiseguys, Asian Invasion, The Sketch Show, and the most-talked about show in 2008: Apatow For Destruction. 

Highlights of his current position have included an advance screening of Pineapple Express with a live presentation by the cast and crew, including 
Judd Apatow, Seth Rogen, Ken Jeong and Danny McBride.

Robyn Kaszor is the Manager of Programming at Just For Laughs, the world's largest international comedy festival. She works on the festivals in Montreal, Toronto and Chicago.

She is the lead Festival Producer of Just For Laughs’ newest Festival, JFL42 - Toronto's Comedy Festival, which features 42 hilarious, riveting, and cool comedy things.

Robyn hails from Halifax, Nova Scotia, she has worked at Just For Laughs since she moved to Montreal back in 2005.

SEMI-FINALS - Fri, Nov 7th

Tim McIntire has been one of the most popular and prolific comedians in New England for over a decade.

He's hosted the Boston Music Awards, written for Nickelodeon, released two comedy albums, and been featured on NPR. His Thursday Night Fights and Geek Council shows are legendary. He's done TV (Comcast Comedy Spotlight) and performed at comedy festivals in Boston and Chicago.

And as one of the owners of Mottley's Comedy Club, he helped give the next generation of comics a space to find their own comedic voices.

Gary Marino is a Boston-area entertainment producer, author, comedian, drummer and radio personality. In 1993, he founded Harmon-Marino Live, which produces comedy theme shows for the resort, special event and fundraiser markets. He has worked in casting with studios such as 20th Century Fox and Carsey Werner Television. He has appeared on national TV several times including ABC’s "Live with Regis and Kelly," FOX News and his film is called "Million Calorie March: The Movie." 

Gary also tours New England as drummer and host of "World Gone Crazy: The Comedic Rock & Roll Circus," a live rock & roll comedy show performing song parodies, stand up comedy, impressions and fake commercials.

Eman El-Husseini is a comedian and producer who performs regularly in Montreal and NYC.

She has been featured in The Just for Laughs Festival, Halifax Comedy Festival, Boston Comedy Festival, CBC's Debaters, George Stroumboulopoulos Tonight, New York Arab American Comedy Festival, and the Amman Stand-Up Comedy Festival and represented Montreal in Sirius XM's Next Top Comic finals.

Eman has also taped comedy specials on the Comedy Network and iChannel. The Montreal Gazette describes her as "fearless and ferociously funny" and named her " the queen of Montreal comedy." 

PRELIMINARIES - Wed, Nov 5th & Thurs, Nov 6th

Sophia Salador is a Programming Coordinator at Just For Laughs, the world’s largest international comedy festival. She has been with the company since 2012, working festivals in Montreal, Toronto and Chicago. Sophia works with the programming team to produce all of JFL's Festivals worldwide.

Judging competitions is no new venture for Sophia, who has spent the last several years on the jury for the Montreal Fringe Festival and the Montreal Comedy Competition.

Michelle Barbara is the cofounder of the Women in Comedy Festival, and has over a decade of experience performing and writing comedy. Michelle performs standup, has directed the Tribe Theater, and was a member of ImprovBoston's mainstage for over four years. Michelle has directed numerous improv troupes, sketch shows, and has taught many comedy master classes and workshops. She founded and co-produces the award-winning WMAM films, which has screened films nationally at the Independent Television Festival, Boston Film Festival, Filmapalooza, and her personal favorite, the Zompire Film Festival. 

Adam Mamawala is an award-winning stand-up comedian based out of Astoria, NY. In addition to booking the popular "Zebra Cake" series at the Beauty Bar in NYC, Adam is a former winner of the New Jersey Comedy Festival, and was recently named one of Funny or Die’s "Top 30 Under 30: Comedians to Watch." Adam has performed at over 150 colleges across more than 35 states and appeared on MTV’s Girl Code. He has performed at the Jersey City Comedy Festival, Laughing Devil Comedy Festival, Woodstock Comedy Festival, Hoboken Comedy Festival and the Boston Comedy Festival. In 2013 he was voted Campus Activities Magazine’s “Fastest Rising Star,” and is currently nominated for 2014 “Comedian of the Year.”
